Dupuytren's disease is the most common cause for finger contractures and is a common condition we see.

It has a genetic predisposition but has some environmental factors such as alcohol and smoking. The thick band can be sore to start with but that in itself is not an indication for surgery. If the finger starts to become troublesome when holding items or putting your hands in your pocket, or you can’t get your hand flat on a table, then that might be the right time to look into whether release of the contracture is required.
