The plantar fascia is a tight band that runs from the heel to the front of the foot, and has a role in push off power and supporting the arch of the foot.

Microtears in this band causes pain and inflammation, often worse in the morning and when you have been on your feet for prolonged periods. Heel spurs are a cause for concern for patients, but there is no clear evidence that a spur is a risk factor for plantar fasciitis.

Initial management involves stretches, physio, soft padding in the heel of the shoe, and occasionally Platelet Rich Plasma injections. The vast majority of patients improve without surgery, but a very small minority have intractable symptoms and need a surgical release of the fascia, which we can do with a minimally invasive technique.

We have much more information to give you about foot problems!
